Like the City of Austin, the neighborhoods that constitute the Anderson Mill Limited District (AMLD) are in transition. According to the US Census Bureau forecast for 2015, there will be 38,890 households within a three-mile radius of the AMLD. The racial makeup of the neighborhood will be 76.3 percent Caucasian, down from 83.3 percent in 2010; the percent of African-American households will increase from 3.6 to 4.6 percent; and, most significantly, the percentage of Hispanic households will increase from 10.3 to 14.5 percent-- an increase of 41 percent in just five years. This shifting cultural make-up of households in the Anderson Mill neighborhoods is expected to accelerate over the next decade.

Currently, there are 19,128 children between the ages of five and 19 residing in these neighborhoods. Of that total,1,052 children reside in households with below-poverty-line (<$24,999) household incomes. Decades of research have proven that children from lower-income households experience higher rates of childhood obesity, school disciplinary referrals and substandard academic achievement.

The median income for a household in the Anderson Mill Limited District was $55,314, and the median income for a family was $59,821. Males had a median income of $41,125 versus $31,028 for females. About 3.8 percent of families and 5.1 percent of the population was below the poverty line, including 5.8 percent of those under age 18 and 1.8 percent of those aged 65 or older.
