Abstract:
In 2008, one in seven Travis County residents, or 144,336 people, were living below the federal poverty level of $21,200 for a family of four.
Travis County in 2008:
- 19% of children and youth were living in poverty (47,723 persons under the age of 18)
- 16% of women were living in poverty (76,632 persons)
- Nearly 8% of all elderly individuals were living in poverty (4,732 persons)
- 24% percent of all individuals with a disability were living in poverty(17,788 persons)
- 29% of adults without a high school diploma were living in poverty (24,985 persons)
