Abstract:
Austin — the live music capital of the world, home to a thriving community of film and theater production, a city that prides itself on being weird. But as the city expands, can we also keep Austin creative? The City of Austin has created a Cultural Master Plan, Create Austin, to help foster the city's culture of creativity now and into the future. Why is this important? The not-for-profit performing and visual arts generate $6 million in local tax revenue alone, and that does not include the for-profit arts as well as live sports events and festivals. The arts clearly have a strong positive effect on the Austin economy. This master plan outlines the recommendations for the city to continue fostering a thriving arts community that is affordable and accessible to the entire community.
