The following report produced by the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse outlines the economic consequences of alcohol and drug abuse in Texas in 2002. Not only was the state paying for medical resources used for treatment and care, but also reduced and lost productivity, law enforcement, destruction of property, motor vehicle accidents, and in social welfare administration.
