While summer breaks from school conjure up images of pools, camps, and amusement parks. Research shows, according to this study, that all students forget or lose learning skills during the summer — especially math skills.

But economically disadvantaged students also lose reading and spelling skills, mainly because they lack the financial resources to supplement or continue these skills out of the classroom.

This report brief offers some recommendations for policymakers and tips for program providers and what’s the best way to address these roadblocks in education.
