Abstract:
More than 1 out of 5 Texas children are obese, the seventh-highest rate in the United States. High fat meals coupled with a lack of physical activity are contributing to Texas’ high child obesity rate. The state has met their goal to have at least half of high school students doing an hour of physical activity every weekday, but TV and computer time has yet to decline. But according to Jodie Smith with the advocacy group Texans Care for Children, childhood obesity has less to do with schools and more to do with the layout of communities.
