Dave Baron, PGA Pro, shares his goal setting lesson plan

Goals should be:

  • Specific

  • Important to you

  • Under your control

  • Positive

Par is a standard set by the community, but we also teach students about “your personal par,” which is a goal set by you. Your personal par needs to relate to something specific.

1) Before heading out to the green, we talk about the word “specific” and relate it to various examples in our life, school, work, play, and family.

2) Pre-shot routine: the player needs to examine the green and anticipate the slope of the green and how they need to react to get the ball in the hole.

3) After the lesson, we review what they did, how they adjusted their approach, and how this is applicable to what they do off the course.
