Austinites Continued Generosity Drives Progress and Advancement in 2011
Issue: December 2011
By Forefront Editor

In 2011, Austin's engaged community and innovative leadership proved once again that we will drive progress and meet challenges in creative and innovative ways. Individuals, corporations and foundations stepped up with programming, donations and time to advance all of Austin.

The $3.8 million donated in response to the Central Texas wildfires was a tremendous display of community support to those in immediate need.  The commitment of time and money by individuals, corporations and foundations reveal the deep connections running between all sectors of our community—connections that get stronger and deeper each year.  2011’s generosity caps off an upward trend of philanthropic support by and for Austin.  In 2010, Bundle.com placed Austin as the 3rd most charitable city in the nation and Convio reported that Austinites were the 15th most generous online donors.

Our December 2011 issue, A Year of Progress: How did life in Austin Improve in 2011, showcases the way in which leaders and organizations are tapping that community support into meaningful advancement for Austin.  Throughout the year, Forefront Austin partners drove ongoing economic growth , expanding education opportunities and helped more people climb out of poverty to join the economic mainstream. They built foundations to help Central Texans become healthier , support resilient and capable communities and our children to achieve their dreams. And they established new connections that will serve those in need and protect our vulnerable populations.

With advancements on so many fronts, Austin is poised to continue its momentum into 2012 and beyond.  We close out this year thankful, blessed and abundantly hopeful about the New Year. Read our partner stories, celebrate our community and get involved to drive Austin forward.  Happy New Year.
