Sustainable Food Center

Sustainable Food Center cultivates a healthy community by strengthening the local food system and improving access to nutritious, affordable food. From seed to table, the Sustainable Food Center creates opportunities for individuals to make healthy food choices and to participate in a vibrant local food system. Through organic food gardening, relationships with area farmers, interactive cooking classes and nutrition education, children and adults have increased access to locally grown food and are empowered to improve the long-term health of Central Texans and our environment.

The Arc of the Capital Area

The Arc of the Capital Area, a 501 (c)(3) organization, is dedicated to providing personalized, community-based services that improve the quality of life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caregivers.

For over 60 years we have removed obstacles for people with disabilities and given hope to their families.

With your support we can:

  • Help special needs kids stay out of trouble and in school.
  • • Offer families legal services to care for their adult children.
  • • Provide family advocates in the local school districts.
  • • Maintain the art studio and gallery to develop talents.
  • • Offer social opportunities for people who have none.

86% of all donations are invested back into services.

The First Tee of Greater Austin

The First Tee of Greater Austin (TFTGA) is a non-profit youth development organization focused on providing young people with educational programs to build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. Conveniently located at the Harvey Penick Golf Campus, close to downtown Austin, TX, TFTGA programs are offered both on campus, as well as in area-schools through the National School Program. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, The First Tee of Greater Austin depends on the generous financial support from the Austin community to continue programs, fund scholarships for youth in need, and bring programs to more Austin-area schools through the National School Program. To date, The First Tee of Greater Austin has touched approximately 15,000+ area youth since 1999, and expects to touch at least 5,000 in 2011. United Way for Greater Austin

United Way for Greater Austin has a rich and impressive history as a Central Texas nonprofit. The organization has been a part of the Austin community for more than 85 years, raising and contributing hundreds of millions of dollars to worthy causes and engaging Central Texans in activities that positively affect our community.

Our Community Impact agenda focuses on three areas: education, income and health. We work to change community conditions for the long-term by focusing on root causes and preventing problems from happening in the first place.

_Manor Independent School District

Manor is located just outside the city limits of Austin on U.S. Hwy. 290 East, approximately 12 miles east of the University of Texas campus. The City of Manor was established in the mid to late 1800s and by the early 1900s was a hub for the central Texas cotton and railroad industries.

Today, the Manor community has become a hub for the central Texas technology industry, with technology giants such as Applied Materials and Samsung, among others, listed on their tax role. The City of Manor is a quickly growing community and currently has a population of almost 3,200 people. A number of MISD students live within the city limits of Austin.

Creativity Essay Contest:

Question: Why should Austin embrace its creative side?

The project kicked-off soon after the Fall 2011 academic semester began, with the students engaged in a lively, far-reaching discussion on the state of the arts in Austin, led by Cliff Redd, formerly of the Long Center, and now with the University of Texas School of Natural Resources. Then, largely under the tutelage of faculty members Stephanie Stewart and Corinne Callahan, the students set-out to help show why the arts in Austin are important. A panel of Forefront judges returned to St. Michael’s six weeks later with the difficult task of trying to select the most creative, informative works.

American Gateways

Assistance League of Austin

Assistance League of Austin (ALA), a chapter of National Assistance League®, is a nonprofit organization of volunteers dedicated to addressing specific needs through practical and innovative programs. ALA has been serving the Austin community since 1973. An all-volunteer, "hands-on" organization of 386 dedicated members (as of June 2010), it has no paid staff. These volunteers cheerfully gave more than 58,000 hours to serve and fund our seven philanthropic programs.

Audubon Texas is the state program of the National Audubon Society, whose mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth’s biological diversity. Through Audubon Centers and in partnership with local chapters, we connect people of all ages and backgrounds to nature through our conservation and education programs. Austin Child Guidance Center

Austin Child Guidance Center was established in 1951 as Austin’s first nonprofit organization dedicated to affordable children’s mental health care. Our multidisciplinary team includes a psychiatrist, psychologists, social workers, professional counselors, and family therapists who work with families through therapy, parent education, psychological assessments, and psychiatric evaluations to ensure that children receive the high-quality, comprehensive mental health care, in one centralized location and at a price they can afford, that they each deserve. Seventy to eighty percent of our clients are low-income or working poor; our sliding fee scale ensures that all families who walk through our doors are able to receive the help they need.

Austin Children's Shelter protects and heals children, young adults and families in need. Since 1984, the Austin Children's Shelter has offered a safe haven for children and youth who are in crisis. Our goal is to reduce the emotional trauma by providing services and quality care in a safe and nurturing environment where each child and young adult can begin to heal.

The Austin Community College District enrolls more than 44,000 credit students, with an additional 15,000 students enrolled in noncredit classes.
