About Caroline Cooper

I am from Austin, Texas. I studied biopsychology at UC-Santa Barbara. I have always loved working with kids. Before working for Boys and Girls Club, I worked at a residential treatment center with youth ages 6-18 and also worked at a child abuse center. My passion is helping kids rise above their circumstances to reach their full potential.

Which of your personal traits is most important in making you a good leader?
I think that the combination of my responsibility and compassion make me a good leader.
What is the most rewarding thing about working public/social service?
The most rewarding part of my career is having the opportunity to inspire great futures. I love helping kids feel good about themselves and discover their strengths.
What was the "aha" moment that got you started in your current career/line of work?
There was a moment when I realized that through working with Boys and Girls Club I was able to influence kids' lives on many different levels---through important targeted programming, through relationships, and through allowing kids the opportunity to have fun and be kids. When I realized how impactful our program was, I knew I was exactly where I wanted to be.
When you were 10, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was 10, I wanted to be a marine biologist. In fact, I carried that dream all the through my sophomore year of college out in California. Once I realized I wanted to live in Austin, I started reconsidering things...
What's the thing you wished you had studied in school, but didn't?
When I changed my major from marine biology to biopsychology, I found my nitch. I can't think of anything more perfectly suited for me than biopsychology. The combination of why we act or feel a certain way and the biological basis behind it was fascinating to me. I actually loved studying!
How long have you lived in Austin? What brought you here?
I have lived in Austin 21 years. I took a four year break to go to school in California, but hurried on home to the Lone Star State. I love Austin weather, lakes, and culture.
